Market Type
2024 / DESIGN THESIS

Redefining receipts as something more than transactional — through modular type.

Market Type is a modular typeface that unpacks the unspoken love embedded in food—a universal language of care and connection, deeply rooted in the traditions of Asian cultures, where affection is often expressed not through words, but through the thoughtful actions of preparing and sharing meals. From selecting the freshest ingredients to simmering hearty broths and marinades over hours, these gestures tell stories of devotion, memory, and togetherness.

Receipts as: vessels of warmth & nostalgia

Through my exploration of type design, I tried to redefine receipts—conventionally rigid and transactional—as vessels of warmth and nostalgia, transforming them into carriers of unique moments, relationships, and shared histories.

Installations/Applications

This project extends beyond design, engaging with the idea of sustainability—rethinking the ephemeral nature of receipts by presenting them in unconventional forms and mediums, such as projections, as a way to preserve their stories. In doing so, I hope to foster deeper bonds between people, encouraging conversations and connections rooted in shared experiences. By blending the warmth of tradition with modern design approaches, I hope to celebrate the memories and relationships that food creates, while inspiring a more thoughtful, sustainable approach to how we document and honor these moments.
